Saturday, January 09 -qualifications dominated by Merlin and Grigoletto
The new season is starting as the last one ended, the athlete from Torino, Alessandra Merlin (Navaski Carving Team) and Gianluca Grigoletto from Rovereto (Texcart Carving Team), last years champions, are again on top of the qualifying results’ list of this first season’s appointment of the FIS Carving Cup 2007, that was held in Folgarida (TN ITA). Although the warm, spinglike weather, here the Swiss course setter Mauro Robustelli, finds enough snow to set a 19 turns course. The second position is for the Trentino athlete Chiara Bettega (Rossetti Produzioni), third position for the Swiss Melanie Buergener (SCT Saas Fee Saastal). The fourth position is occupied by another Italian girl, Francesca Deambrogio (Rossetti Produzioni), followed by the Polish Marta Berezik. On the men’s ranking we find in second position, at only 0,10 points behind Grigoletto, Aaron Nider (Carving Team Italia) and 11 points after, last years’ second Marco Pastore (GER). Tommaso Bartolini, was better than last season’s European Champion, René Stoessel, Thomas Bergamelli is to be found on the 8th place. Quite good the debut for Matteo Nana, 12th after the qualifying runs. But for the clue we have to wait until tomorrow, at 11.00 when the 30 best men’s and 10 best women’s semifinal starts. The final will be run only by the first 5 women and 10 first men.
