As in 2007, also this year the Fis Carving Cup - World
Edition, the World Cup series of the new sub-discipline of
ski alpine, disputes its first race on the snows of Trentino's
Folgarida. At the starting gate this morning also last years
winners: Alessandra Merlin (Navaski Carving Team) and Thomas
Bergamelli (Texcart Carving Team). Due to the intense snowing
of the last 2 days - although it is a very dry and light snow,
it made about 20 cm on the slope - the start to the qualifying
runs has been rescheduled to 12.00. Until then the staff and
the locals (Società Impianti Funivie Folgarida-Marilleva)
should have been able to prepare the "Provetti". If there
should be no possibility to run tomorrow, the whole competition
will be postponed to sunday morning. Mauro Robustelli has
been able to set an interesting course including some movements,
jumps and bumps. The captain of the Texcart Carving Team,
Gianluca Grigoletto, comments the oncomming season: "Ten venues
during this season taking us from the Trentino, to Switzerlan,
Ucraina, Poland, Slovenija and than back to the center of
Italy , to Roccaraso and Pragelato. The closing final is sscheduled
in Claviere, together with women's giant slalom and slalom
EC Finals. This is the calendar we all dreamt of , but it
will take a lot of physical and mental training". In fact
the athletes challenging his leadership are Renè Stoessel,
Ivan Eggenberger, Silvan Zwahlen, the slovenian Groselj, Lipovac
and Grgincic, and the new arrivals Maurilio Alessi (Army)
and Miha Malus (SLO), with his 20 Fis Slalom points. The women's
race continues the eternal challenge between Merlin-Buergener,
but also Teuc and Celigoj might do very well. Unchanged the
programm of the Toyota 4x4 Skitour, which promotional village
is linked to the italian venues of the FIS Carving Cup. |
