AIROLO       AIROLO (SUI) - The fourth venue René Stoessel and Alessandra Merlin unbeatable on the Pescium 08 february 2008 - - René Stoessel and Alessandra Merlin are the winners of the fourth Fis Carving Cup race, held on february 3rd, on the Pescium at Airolo, Switzerland. On the second place another swiss athlete, Ivan Eggenberger, who, with this third second place, conquered the red leader bib. Last year's champion, Gianluca Grigoletto, still without a podium place this season, also this time had to surrender to the spectacular performance of the slovenian, Miha Malus. The official course setter Mauro Robustelli, designed a track of a difficult tactical interpretation, with 19 curve zones, 16 of which triples or vertical combinations. The swiss domain could have been plain if Melanie Buergener, the 26-years-old from Saas Bidermatten, would have been able to beat Alessandra Merlin, who celebrated her fourth season's victory. Melanie chose the longer way, whereas Alessandra cut for three times. She collected 6 points less than the swiss, but in the end the lower race time allowed her to close with an advantage of 0.89 pts. Third place to Ana Teuc (SLO). A little disillusion for Thomas Bergamelli, the winner both of the qualifying races and the semifinal. A small mistake at he fourth turn, didn't permit him to stay in the track. His younger brother, Giancarlo, until the last season in slalom's A team, ended the race on the 7th position, due to his technique, more than to the strategie. Stoessel won the race the very moment he chose the blu buoy in one of the last turns in order to accelerate until the arrival. Nobody dared to cut, eccept Rudolf Uros, who ended up on a too external line. Nonetheless the slovenian team manager, Karel Truglas, was satisfied - “We are working very well, our athletes have lost their fear of the bigs. We have a very young team and this is the right way to point future podiums.” The special team's ranking has been won by the Stoeckli Carving Team of Stoessel and Eggenberger, gaining as well the first position in the general ranking. Second the CTI-Columbia with 27 pts and third the Texcart with 23 pts. The Fis Carving Cup will move to Kranjska Gora (Slo), hoping to find the same perfect conditions as found at Airolo, where the Ente Leventina Turismo and the Società Centri Montani did a perfect work.
